Acceptable Use Policy
Effective date: July 24, 2026 · Last updated: July 24, 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy is part of our Terms of Service. Lantern exists to support the dignity, autonomy, and wellbeing of the people being cared for. Use that violates that purpose — or the law — is prohibited.
1. Consent comes first
You may not use the Service to:
- monitor any person without the informed consent or lawful authority described in the Terms (§ 6) and the Elder Notice & Consent;
- record or transcribe any call or conversation without the consents required by the law of every participant’s state;
- continue monitoring, recording, or tracking after consent has been withdrawn;
- enable location or geofence features for anyone who has not opted in (or, for an elder, without explicit consent and appropriate documented authority);
- misrepresent your identity, relationship, or authority with respect to an elder; or
- add Care Circle members the elder (or their representative) has asked be excluded.
2. Protect, never exploit
You may not use the Service to:
- harass, intimidate, coerce, isolate, or control an elder or any other person;
- facilitate abuse, neglect, abandonment, or financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult;
- surveil an elder for purposes unrelated to their care (for example, monitoring visitors, romantic partners, or finances);
- weaponize care data in family disputes, or use it to embarrass or pressure the elder or other members; or
- make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about a person solely from the app’s signals or insights.
3. Keep the platform honest and secure
You may not:
- submit false, fabricated, or misleading data (including fake medication confirmations or check-ins);
- access another account or Care Circle without authorization, or probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service;
- reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, bulk-export, or build competing products from the Service or its outputs, except as the law allows notwithstanding this restriction;
- interfere with the Service’s operation (including overloading, injecting malware, or circumventing rate limits or access controls);
- abuse voice or AI features (including attempting to extract other users’ data from them or using them to deceive); or
- use the Service to violate any law, including privacy, surveillance, wiretap and call-recording, telemarketing, and elder-protection laws.
4. Enforcement
We may investigate suspected violations and may warn, suspend, restrict, or terminate accounts; remove content; notify affected persons; and report conduct to law enforcement or protective services where appropriate. We may suspend access to an elder’s space while a consent or safety question is resolved.
